The DEVISINGHUB at Ping Chong + Company is a space of dynamic creative process, performative inquiry, collaborative exploration, and an incubator for new, innovative performance works. Up to 12 interdisciplinary performance makers (individuals and/or collaborative teams) bring new or early-stage projects to explore and develop.
These 12 artists, thinkers, and activists come together in a space of dynamic, playful collegiality. We gather here as collaborators; we develop new works in progress; we explore the contemporary landscape of devised performance practice; we share supportive critique; and we experiment with and articulate processes for making new work.
The DEVISINGHUB is led by Ping Chong + Company Associate Artist Ryan Conarro. Participating artists convene for 2-3 evenings over the course of 4-5 weeks. The HUB will include a special session with Ping Chong.
For the finale session at the HUB, all participants will have the opportunity to share their works in progress, and we’ll invite downtown artistic leaders to experience the work and meet the participating artists. Several projects presented in the 2015 DEVISINGHUB have gone on to full productions; to arts festivals and community engagement events; or have found new collaborators through the HUB.
DEVISINGHUB extends the mission of Ping Chong + Company, which produces theatrical works addressing the important cultural and civic issues of our times with artistic ingenuity and social integrity. Founded by leading theatrical innovator Ping Chong, the company creates performance that explores the intersections of race, culture, history, art, media and technology in the modern world. Productions range from intimate oral history projects to grand-scale cinematic multidisciplinary works featuring puppets, performers, and music and projection scores. Our work reveals beauty, precision, and a commitment to social justice.
