Secret Histories: Seattle Youth, 2004

ABOUT

Secret Histories: Seattle Youth is part of an ongoing series of projects exploring the effects of history, culture, and ethnicity in the lives of individuals in a community. The piece was made through a collaborative workshop process with the authors. The participants in the Seattle Youth project come from diverse backgrounds. Parthiel and Abdi-Karim left civil wars in Sudan and Somalia respectively. Erene’s family left their agrarian life in Mexico to seek education and opportunities in the United States. Stephanie is originally from the U.S., but has struggled with homelessness and family issues that have kept her outside the mainstream culture. All of these young people reside in Seattle.
